Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a form of psychotherapy that was devised in the 1970′s by linguist John Grinder and therapist Richard Bandler. The main principle is that our life experiences program the way we see the world and ourselves, and the way we communicate with others. Neuro-linguistic programming is considered a New Age and fringe treatment, and it’s claims have not been scientifically verified. NLP treatment models and assumptions about thinking and perception have not been backed by traditional neuroscience. Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a powerful body of information about how the human mind works, and has been built up since the 1970`s. ANLP welcomes those trained using a number of varying approaches stemming from this era, in order to be an independent voice for NLP.

Functional models were created for the methods used by these successful people. Neuro-Linguistic Programming is not a new concept nor used rarely. Neuro-linguistic programming is a valuable learning tool and its usefulness – according to Jacobson and Williams in “Neurolinguistic Programming in Orientation and Mobility” should be explored by vision specialists. Through implementing a program of instruction for the blind using the Twentieth Century technique of neuro-linguistic programming as one of its components, the inequalities in the academic arena for the impaired will be minimized; and their minds ignited with “rainbows” of illuminated knowledge.
NLP is simply becoming more aware of how our minds work and then using that information to modify the ways in which we respond to people and situations. NLP is a process that expands the recognition capabilities of an interactive voice response system. Rather than being limited to directed prompts that instruct users on what to say and how to respond (such as say yes or no), a user can respond to a prompt with thousands of natural speech replies, from one-word responses to full sentences. NLP is the science of understanding how to control and direct how we think, feel and behave in any given circumstance.
It is much more than simply getting results. NLP is not so concerned with why something is not working, but more with how you internalize. Once you learn how you do certain things, patterns can be changed easily and quickly. NLP is all about experiencing the change and not just reading about it. NLP training courses exist to help the inexperienced user learn the system. Many NLP books are also written on the subject.
NLP is all about producing results and often very quickly. If the technology has an attitude then that attitude is all about producing measurable results that enhance the quality of peoples lives without a lengthy and painful journey into the past. NLP is an interpersonal communication model and an alternative approach to psychotherapy. Contrasting mainstream psychotherapy, NLP does not concentrate on diagnosis, treatment and assessment of mental and behavioral disorders. The key is to facilitate behavioral change that works. Neuro Linguistic Programming is thus a minute study of our subjective experiences. Since it is subjectivity that determines our individuality, even if we go through experiences similar to others?, it is the way we perceive these experiences that differentiates us from others.
